Emergency & After Hours Care

Southside Mobile is an appointment-only general practice. If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please contact one of the 24-hour facilities below immediately.

🚨 Is This a Pet Emergency?

If your pet is experiencing any of the following, do not wait. Call one of the emergency facilities listed below immediately.*

 

Immediate Life-Threatening Signs

  • Breathing Distress: Labored breathing, gasping, wheezing, or open-mouthed breathing (especially in cats).

  • Color Changes: Blue, purple, or very pale gums and tongue.

  • Loss of Consciousness: Sudden collapse, fainting, or inability to wake up.

  • Seizures: Especially if this is their first seizure or if they are having multiple seizures in a row.

  • Non-Productive Retching: Attempting to vomit with nothing coming up (a hallmark sign of Bloat/GDV).

 

Critical Injuries & Pain

  • Major Trauma: Being hit by a car, falling from a significant height, or being involved in a severe animal fight.

  • Uncontrolled Bleeding: Bleeding that does not stop after 5 minutes of direct pressure.

  • Sudden Paralysis: Dragging back legs or sudden inability to walk.

  • Vocalizing in Pain: Intense crying, whining, or aggression when touched.

 

Urgent Medical Concerns

  • Toxin Ingestion: Known or suspected ingestion of chocolate, grapes, human medications, or chemicals.

  • Urinary Blockage: Straining to urinate with little to no production (extremely critical for male cats).

  • Eye Injuries: Sudden squinting, cloudiness, or visible trauma to the eye.

  • Severe GI Distress: Persistent vomiting or diarrhea, especially if bloody.

*If you are unsure if your pet’s condition is an emergency, it is always safer to call a 24-hour facility for a phone triage.

Important: Always call the emergency clinic before arriving. This allows them to prepare for your pet's specific needs and provide you with real-time wait information.

Once your pet is stable, please ask the emergency facility to forward all records to staff@southsidemobilevet.com. We will follow up with you the next business day to coordinate continued care and recovery.
